iMassRadio.com bucks trend - continues programming News/Talk/Sports radio format despite questionable future of Internet Radio
Despite the uncertainty of internet radio, iMassRadio.com continues to grow with additional programming, and welcoming new listeners to their growing schedule.
"While the trend industry-wide is discouraging, I'm proud to say that iMassRadio.com has bucked the trend and continues to webcast on a regular schedule through the help of our programming partners", states iMassRadio Operations Manager Marc Lemay. "Many of our fellow webcasters have been displaced by the outlandish fees being levied against internet radio operations, but because we create our own content, we are in essence, exempt from the rules."
iMassRadio has seemingly found a niche in internet radio, by providing programming that can be found nowhere else. "Through our partnership with the Boston Baseball League, we have brought nearly 40 games of semi-professional local baseball to the Internet at a fraction of the cost of more traditional media outlets like radio or television.", comments Lemay. "Because of the partnership, we have attracted not only the ballplayers, but also parents, relatives and sports-hungry fans to the station in search of alternative programming to our over the air counterparts."
iMassRadio recently announced a new addition to its programming lineup, the New England Championship Wrestling. "This is something I'm very excited about." According to Lemay, "Wrestling fans are rabid about their sport, and the fact that we can team up with a regional wrestling association makes the partnership all the more fruitful. iMassRadio will webcast its first ever match from the NECW mere hours after the Second Anniversary Birthday Bash on August 10th at Midnight.
Sheldon Goldberg, Owner and General Manager of NECW, echoes Lemay's sentiments. "When I started New England Championship Wrestling the intention was to build the company up from a grass roots level. Of all the things we do to market ourselves, our most tangibly effective effort has been the Internet. The numbers of people visiting our website far outstrip the number of people attending our live events. The partnership with iMassRadio.com is a common sense attempt to take that medium that we're already getting results in, and broaden that experience to further build brand awareness and enhance the NECW experience for new fans and the fans that have already demonstrated an interest in our product."
Not only is iMassRadio bringing wrestling to the internet, but also reliving a bit of history. According to Goldberg, "Wrestling and radio are not strangers to each other. As late as the mid-80's, there were promotions in parts of the U.S. that used radio as an alternative medium to television. It's not being done right now, so I guess we're actually moving forward by turning the clock back. At this point, our challenge is to deliver an exciting and insightful broadcast and we will do that."
For the NECW, iMassRadio is a win-win situation. "For NECW, the 'holy grail' is television. Unfortunately, the television industry has taken the view that pro wrestling should be paid programming. The economics of that for a company like NECW are suicidal. iMassRadio, in its need for non-music content, offers us a unique media platform to get our
product out to a wider audience."
iMassRadio.com continues to expand it current programming base by offering unique programming to the internet listener. More new programming announcements are expected soon.
